Tayutama Anime!?
There must be a few eroge players in Moetron or the group just like looking at ecchi pictures because somehow I was trackbacked from an article about a Tayutama: Kiss On My Deity anime adaption (Thanks by the way!). But I would’ve never guessed there would be an actual adaptation. I guess Lump of Sugar must be doing well, selling all those kneesocks and dakimakura covers. Though my thoughts are mixed about this announcement and for good reason. 99% of all eroge-anime adaptions suck. Let’s be honest here. When someone hears an “anime adaption based off an eroge” he will most likely think it will be butchered to hell before feeding it to the hounds of absolute suckage.
But there is another part of me who is an idealistic opportunist and believes that this could work. Tayutama has a pretty large trunk and short branch routes. So it is possible a Tayutama adaptation can turn out better than most since the storyline is more linear. All I can really say is that I’ll be expecting this with great caution.

Da Capo and To Heart 2 worked decently enough, although then again those two companies probably have more heft and creative input than Lump of Sugar.

They will probably just change the story to the point you don’t recognize it anyway. I don’t think they are making them to appeal to eroge players at all, they are just lazy fucks who don’t have any better ideas so they borrow them from a video game that actually had decent writers on their staff.

Most eroge-adaptations are either horribly adapted for animation purposes, or received poorly. Just look at most eroge adaptations, F/SN or Tsukihime if you don’t want to look any further – you get the complaints “IT’S NOT LOYAL TO THE SOURCE, IT SUX”.
Then when you do get loyal adaptations – like Nanatsuiro Drops, for example – the anime “community” (more like disgruntled mob) finds another reason to bash it. “OMG IT’S A RIPOFF OF AN EXISTING SHOW”.
That’s why I’m never optimistic over the reception of, and reciprocally the success of, eroge adaptations. Although my loyalty to Lump of Sugar, my fondness of Moekibara Fumitake’s characters and my love for Tayutama decrees that I say otherwise.
ALL HAIL TAYUTAMA, ALL HAIL MASHIRO!
…I should really get to work on that eroge-anime adaptations thing entry of mine.
PS. Lump of Sugar, please don’t animate Itsusora.

@Newprimus: Sadly, I have found To Heart 2 snooze-inducing and I only paid attention to the first season of Da Capo. I felt they didn’t need to extend it to a second season.

@Hemisphere: I must be one of the few who actually enjoyed Nanatsuiro Drops. Even though there needs to be necessary cuts because it IS an anime, the atmosphere and overall feeling made it appealing to me. I also found Fate/Stay Night to be loyal to the source but was lackluster in other issues such as animation consistency and pacing on certain areas. What I REALLY want is the hot bath scene with Mashiro animated and in full glory! MAKE IT AN ERO ANIME! And I don’t want to know how the hell they’ll ever make an Itsusora anime. I pray they NEVER try it.

The only thing wrong with FSN was the fact that they replaced all the sex with weird not-sex scenes. Like the dragon. But otherwise it was good.

@randompasserby: No clue, but if I had to make a guess it would be TNK since they’ve been doing eroge-anime adaptions recently like School Days and Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka.
@Zakarum: Those producers must think a dragon chomping off an entire arm is as hot and steamy as a 3P.
