FAVORITE Addendum

So I’ve recently found out about the Engrish patch to Hoshizora no Memoria. Kudos to me for being up to date on these things.

Disregarding my complete ignorance to the English VN community, I thought I’d get back up to speed by checking out VNDB. The hallmark of… all things English and visual novels. Seems that there are considerably more votes on English-translated vns then not. Unsurprising. But my brain turned off when processing the winding twists of some of the threads, specifically Hoshizora no Memoria where it turned from title appreciation to reader standards.

For the most part I’ve agreed with the majority of individuals in the ‘uneven’ treatment of heroine routes, strongly defined characters, and random metaphysical info dumping. But seriously, another discussion about reader standards? I suppose it can be “fun” in under the right circumstances but I usually stay the hell away from this. I guess it’s one of those inevitable consequences like earthquakes and tsunamis.

Whatever the case, Hoshizora no Memoria appears to be deemed worthy to be translated by Staircase Subs. Their next game, Irotoridori no Sekai, is under current translation by Tokidan. If any of you enjoyed Hoshimemo, chances are you’ll like Irodori. I can attest that the style and structure are very similar to each other. The heroines are criminally cute and the story hints a bit of mystery and supernatural mystique. Personally, I think one of FAVORITE’s strongest points is in the world-building. The setting is very immersible from the amount of detail through the visuals, music, and narrative. My personal and uninformative mini-review of Hoshizora no Memoria can be found here, but a BETTER ONE can be found here. For those wanting a sneak preview of what to expect in Irotoridori no Sekai, there’s also a non-spoiler review here.

Unfortunately due to the realization of the translation of Irodori and Staircase Subs’ next project, Dracu-riot, my policy of ultimate laziness decries that I will not write reviews for either. Why bother when y’all can play it YOURSELVES?! It’s like asking the really loud and lustful one in your group of friends to spoil the new, upcoming Stephenie Meyer film. I am a bit curious as to why Staircase decided to choose Dracu-riot. In my opinion, this was one of Yuzu-soft’s weaker titles and their preceding game, Noble Works, can easily match up to its ‘standards’ and beyond. I suppose vampires are still in.

It’s still a good, humorous chara-ge but don’t expect it to be the grand, masterful storytelling like Hoshizora no Memoria. BUT HAWT DAYUM THE ERO-SCENES! DA SMORGASBOARD OF CG’S AND DUAL-AUDIO IS SETTING THE NEW STANDARD OF FAPPING MATERIAL! AAAWWWYEEEEAAAHHH!

The ero-cgs I would have put in my now non-existent review POSSIBLE SPOILERS?!?!?.

I’m still grieving for a Hiyori sub-route.

So I’ve been playing Dracu-Riot and… Now I don’t know if I should keep up with it after you said it’s weak. Last thing I want is finding out that several hours of my life have gone to waste. I mean, I’m still at the beggining, but considering that my Japanese is piss poor, it still takes up a lot of time.

  6. klutch slize w/e Says:

honestly, you shouldn’t be playing yuzusoft games expecting a deep experience.

you’ll get some laughs out of dracu-riot, but that’s about it.

  7. Metaler Says:

Well, I was never expecting anything deep. If I do that with every eroge that I play, I’ll go insane and become cynical. lol

I was just want a nice, enjoyable experience, and avoid making a fool of myself.

You should link the thread next time, I’d love to learn about these reader standards so I can have something to reference.

Also by non-existent review POSSIBLE SPOILERS?!?!? you mean future potential review with splash-ful of spoilers right? Right?!

Lastly, noticed the tag., I think you are doing way better than I am >_<

im currently playing the hoshimemo english patch… so just how long is the common route? And what’s the route order you’d recommend?
    Thanks

  10. m3rryweather Says:

@klutch: The route’s brevity is its strong point. Also she’s hawt. Like waaaay hawt.

@Metaler: I completely approve of your statement. I just wish I have enough discipline to stick with one to completion. I wouldn’t say Dracu-riot is a waste of time. It’s a nice, feel-good eroge with likable characters and plenty of humor which is Yuzu-soft’s trademark. I only stated it was the weakest title they’ve released in comparison to their other ones. Even so, it’s a nice, sexy chara-ge.

@warum: I remember it somewhere in a Hoshimemo thread on vndb. It’s pretty long so it should be fairly obvious. And I just missed out on another week. orz

@ballermina: The common route is pretty darn long. As to route order, it is really up to you to decide but I usually follow the movie OP which are: Asuho, Komomo, Kosame, Isuzu, Chinami, *SECRET*, and Mare. However, your game experience won’t be deterred from not following a specific order. I would at least recommend Asuho first because her story is a good starter to the game’s feel and style.
