Hoshizora no Memoria (Mini) Review
Here’s the review before the fandisc comes out. Wheeeee!
Sooo Hoshizora no Memoria. There’s already two others who have posted reviews long before I have so I’ll throw my own more dramatic and intriguing version of the plot. Also I’m going to throw out all objectivity out the door and fanboy to my heart’s content.
You (protagonist’s name not actually you, duhhh) AND HIS IRRITATING SISTER moved to a seaside cape and did all the usual school life/astronomy club happy-dappy schtick when he thought, “YO! I want to see mah schweet loli girlfriend/future fiance back when we were kids man!” So he trudged up a big freaking hill to an abandoned observatory and BAM! He sees HAWT LOLI AT 12 O’CLOCK! YEEEESSSSS! She’s got a scythe! OOOHHH YEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!
But OH CRAP I’VE BEEN STABBED! WHHUUUTT I CAN’T REMEMBER OSM LOLI GF’S NAME! HUUUUHHHH!?!?!?!
And so begins the adventure of mystery, mystique, amnesia, and JAWSUM BISHOUJOS!
Minahoshi Asuho (CV: Samoto Fuuri) is chipper and like a cute puppy. She is the type who wants to go out and explore everything around her and would delightfully invite someone to accompany her. Asuho holds a great love of the sky and is knowledgeable of the many stories associated with the constellations. Asuho is made of winsauce and is unaffected by asteroids of hate from certain people.
Hisakaki Mokomoko Komomo (CV: Miyazawa Yuana) is tsundere, a shrine miko, and a student council member with a lot of “Hmph’s,” or “Fun’s” or whatever onomatopoeia’s Japan likes using. She receives lots of nightmares but for some reason she shows a lot of energy in the day. I like her shy and embarrassed side quite a bit. ‘You’ needs to perform more hime dakkos. ALWAYS.
Hisakaki Kosame (CV: Kusunoki Suzune) is MYSTERIOUS SH!T YO! Every other reviewer can’t spill any beans because her route is like top secret stuff. But she is cute and that’s all I care about! Kosame is more or less the character with the common sense and is pleasant to be with. She’s also got a wicked head chop and nicely-shaped breasts. YEEAAAAHHH!!!
Aoi Isuzu (CV: Azuma Karin) is cold, like cold enough to freeze whatever response you can think of. But very very deep down in the bowels of her frozen personality lies a lost girl. Afraid to be close but hoping for warmth, she will test the patience of the hardiest spelunkers. But if you’ve got willpower of someone like Kresnik, you might find that diamond in the rough.
Kogasaka Chinami (CV: Mizuhara Kaoru) is…is…*cries in his sleep* probably the most grating imouto I’ve ever met in an eroge. Ever. Her voice continues to echo in my skull to this very day.If she didn’t talk so much I wouldn’t be so annoyed but she jabbers a lot. I’m usually not crazy about heavy drama but I have to thank the stars for putting it in this route because she does mellow down.
WARNING! WARNING! CRAZY SECRET CHARACTER! UNFORTUNATELY, YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW HER NAME IF YOU SAW THE FANDISC INFO ON MICCHI’S SITE! OMFG HAX!
Mare S. Ephemeral (CV: Kadowaki Mai) is THE REASON WHY I PLAYED THROUGH ALL THE ROUTES! MARE IS LOVE! MARE IS MAI WAIFU! HHHHNNNGGGGGHHHHH!!!! Tsundere loli with a scythe! BANZAI! BANZAI! WHY IS HER ROUTE SO SHORT?!?! THE TEARS WON’T STOP!
All the girl’s stories relate to their “nightmares” and only by overcoming it will they be able to reach a resolution. Usually a nightmare will be associated with an object, a person, or an experience. There is also a bunch of funky context revolving around stars, fallen stars, promises and wishes. The story can be pretty deep and lengthy but I personally do not think it is complex compared to other eroges.
The art is very nice. I’m digging the detailed background shots and the character art looks good as well. The only thing that puzzles me is ***’s eye color sometimes change from orange to yellow. Seriously, what the hell is going on?
The presentation looks gorgeous. There are plenty of cool buttons and sound effects. The game has a sweet zoom-in feature for CG’s and the music and voices are great. The main OP and ED themes are awesome including their arranged versions.
The only complaint I can think of is the skip function is too freaking slow for a game with so much text. I also want more scythes. THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE SCYTHES. It also needs more Mare but the fandisc is coming out soon.
I enjoyed this game immensely and anyone who likes comedy, drama, a bit of jaw-dropping action, romantic times with cute bishoujos, and an in-depth storyline of supernatural hunks of rocks will probably enjoy this too. Also it has scythes.

That being said, I think my favorite routes were Yume and Komomo…(and guess what my least favorite was xD)
I wonder if the fandisc actually has something worthy of reading…
And, if someone happened to see the anime Sora no manimani from 2009, I kinda got some serious Hoshimemo flashes watching that, it was scary. There’s obviously too many genki girls in 2D-Japan who are obsessed with astronomy.

@Moriken: As long as there is Mare action I’m satisfied. Other than Yume and Mare, I’m guessing there will be short stories of all the heroines and random ero-scenes. And I guess astronomy clubs are the new in thing this season. <_<

@Sterling01: I always follow by the body appearance. If they’re small and DFC, that is a pretty good indication. Age is a bit relative in fiction. Ren and Ilya do not count as grown women to me.
Dang End of Eternity looks nice! Manly space cowboys in bullet time is always cool!
@klutch: Er, well the other reviewers can probably give a better overview than I can. I think you can probably tell what kind of eroges I enjoy after two years on this site and I did enjoy this one. It’s got a humorous school story and depending on which heroine to pursue, it follows her story and main conflict. All the routes have something supernatural going on and they’re all related to an important plot event. If you want a good read with humor, romance, and mystery, you might want to give this a go.

God damn. The art is damn gorgeous. I’m not usually big on RORI, but that last CG contains more beauty than my brain cells can handle.

I really like how Mare’s pale skin complexion shines out from the backdrop of the night sky. This game really puts a lot of effort and detail in its background CG’s and with DELISHUZ LOLIS too!
Dang it man. Now I’m all intrigued for Durarara.
