Tenshin Ranman LUCKY or UNLUCKY!? (Mini) Review
Writing multiple review posts at once is soooo much fun….this one just happen to finish first.
Thanks to some outstanding marketing with Lump of Sugar, Tenshin Ranman was received with great fanfare and Sana fangasming and rightfully so. Even so, the reactions were mixed. It wasn’t the OMG jizz-my-pants awesome sauce but it was a solid, entertaining title. I pretty much agree with the rest and I liked it for what it has to offer. What do you honestly expect with a synopsis like this anyway? A Stephen King novel? Well, let’s get on with this review.

Chitose Haruki is a pretty cool guy. He has adapted a laid-back attitude since bad fortune slaps him in the face everyday. But he can show some manly strength and determination when the need arises. He’s gar, with SEED powers.
Unohana no Sakuya Hime (CV: Itou Shizuka) is the goddess who is trying to fix up Haruki’s luck-ridden life. She can be haughty, selfish and likes to mess around with Haruki but is also well-meaning and holds wise insight to his problems. Hime makes quite a number of jokes which breaks the fourth wall and that’s cool.
Rindou Ruri (CV: Naruse Mia) is the loli tsundere but she’s also a fox spirit and they’re totally in like Mashiro. She is initially distrusting toward Haruki and bites his arm very often but she eventually warms up to him…sorta. She still bites him now and then. But Ruri is cute so I forgive her and if Haruki isn’t I”ll KILL HIM!
Chitose Sana (CV: Oto Agumi) is Haruki’s OSM imouto and of course they’re not blood-related. Prone to go delirious and have exaggerated fantasies to the point of volunteering to do ecchi things for her beloved nii-san, she is a brocon true and through. Sana is sugary sweet and cooks a mean bowl of miso soup.
Yamabuki Aoi (CV: Samoto Fuuri) is Haruki’s osananjimi. She is popular and athletic though once in a while she can become sickly. Amazingly enough, she is not crazily in love with Haruki. like Sana In fact, she doesn’t appear to be interested in pursuing a romantic relationship at all which is a nice change from the usual childhood friends.
Subheroines:

Karasuba Yukari (CV: Taguchi Hiroko) is an insanely sadistic teacher and her route means pain. If you like pain, then you will like Yukari’s route. Her route involves thugs beating up Haruki and Yukari uses a different method of applying pain. Masochists rejoice.
Graphics are good. If you can’t tell you need your eyes checked. Music is not amazing but it isn’t bad. The ero-scenes are plentiful and hot so there’s no need for worry there. YEAHYUH, ero on WIDESCREEN BABY! The voices loop so readers don’t have to hear erratic slurping/moaning sounds if they have an unsteady trigger finger. But for those who are just too quick or peak too fast for the action, it can be turned off.
There appears to be a wide consensus that all the routes have pacing issues and I have to agree with them. I don’t know if it’s the writing style or what, but there just doesn’t seem to be much stuff happening between the first and second climaxes of the stories. If you can make it through than it will be worth your while.
Finally, I would start rambling on and on about Sana’s superiority over Hime but this is a mini review and already past one thousand words. I’ll just end this with the sole reason that Sana at least played an active role in her story rather than passively ignoring the whole situation. Hell, even Aoi tries to do something about Haruki’s and her own predicament.
Well that’s it for me. It’s the romantic comedy with dramatic climaxes and if that’s your thing than this is the title for you. If not, than stay away with a ten-foot pole. I grabbed this because I wanted some Mahiro action, but Sana was an awesome bonus.
