Looking Back: Reviewing a Timeline
So I’ve been updating My Eroge List page and I thought I should at least link my reviews to the eroges I’ve done/partially completed. It was then I realized there has been a fair number and my “review style” (?) changed in the past couple of months. I thought I’d take a look at how my writing turned into what you see now.
My Humble Beginnings: Peace@Pieces, Galzoo Island, Prima Stella.
These were pretty short and I really didn’t know what to write at the time. I didn’t have an exact format and just wrote about some brief character descriptions and the genre. Though I didn’t know what the hell I was doing, I had naive enthusiasm and energy as all three had been posted in the span of less than five days. These were also my first forays into the works of Unisonshift, Alicesoft, and Atelier Kaguya Berkshire Yorkshire. Needless to say, these titles made me a fan of all three game companies. However, I give a special honor to Peace@Pieces. Despite the numerous titles with better storytelling or plotlines, I found a type of magic and charm with Peace@Pieces and it was one of those titles that just pulled me so emotionally that I teared up (manly tears of course).
Taking First Baby Steps: Supreme Candy, Tayutama: Kiss On My Deity, Nursery Rhyme
I wanted to add more content so I tried out different things such as talking more about the plot, characters, music, presentation, and all that stuff you see in other eroge reviews (which there weren’t many mind you). At this point, I have somewhat of a grasp of what kind of format I wanted to write about but it wasn’t concrete. I’ve started to write more reviews on games I have actually completed 100% except for Nursery Rhyme. I seriously doubt I’ll ever finish Rin’s route in that game. This is also when I had no clue about wordpress stuff and the move to dasaku took me forever because I couldn’t decide on the page layout. I wish I will never have to do that again.
Activating Trans-Am: Moshimo Ashita Ga Harenaraba, Triptych, MeriChri, Nanatsuiro Drops, Empty X Embryo, Alice Parade
Moshimo Ashita Ga Harenaraba was the first review I used spoiler tags and MAJOR fanboying and revealed loads of plot details. For some reason, the public wanted to see more of it and so my word count has exponentially increased. I’m not sure what possessed me to write so much and I think I was an idiot with too much time on his hands. Alice Parade still holds the record with a word count of over three thousand. But I really enjoyed playing all these games and if I could I wanted to share my enthusiasm to the readers at the risk of making them tl;dr. I didn’t really care how many people read my reviews if it could encourage at least one person to try a visual novel out (whether it’s also an eroge is up to you *wink wink*). I believe this is one of the reasons that drove me. From screaming about Triptych’s major plot twists to pasting Shakespearean quotes in Empty X Embryo, these reviews are probably the most extensive and illustrious of my…career I guess.
The screwy oddball: Love Death 3
I cannot leave out this one as it is the first review I wrote where I knew nothing about the story and the bare minimum of the characters. To be honest, I really didn’t think I should post this because it’s more of a messed-up documentary of my foolish escapades with ‘interactive gameplay’ in an eroge. Now, I look at this as a joke more than anything but it was a lot of fun to write. Actually I’ve been fiddling around with @Homemate with similar results and I doubt I’ll ever make any real progress. Perhaps one day I’ll write about it in the same vein as this review.
And this game is too painful for me to look for a picture.
Giving the Spotlight: Flyable Heart, Shinigami no Kiss wa Wakare Aji
Okay, I’m not really giving anything but it’s more of me being lazy. With a sudden increase of eroge players creating blogs all over the sphere, I found it easier to just link to their posts and skip all the things I find relatively dull in writing a review such as plot summaries. You can tell from my Empty X Embryo and Nanatsuiro Drops reviews that I despise writing plot summaries so I butcher them as much as possible to entertain myself from boredom. Though in retrospect, this could be seen as lowering the quality in my writing (if you ever thought my posts had any to begin with). But I believe it is a good thing that more people are writing about eroges they enjoy and it brings much-needed awareness to the medium as a whole. Like I said before, one of the reasons why I write reviews is to encourage those who have never read a visual novel to try one. If I need to link to a more well-written, engaging, and professional review than my own then so be it. My goal is to share, not to compete.
Well, it’s been one heck of a journey and I won’t stop any time soon! Granted, I’ll probably write more “lazy” reviews as many eroges I like to play currently coincide with several other reviewers but it’s possible I’ll occasionally write a more expansive review. For example, I haven’t found a sucker anyone play Gachi Otome Quintet so I guess I need to pull my lazy ass into gear and actually write a nauseatingly detailed review for it. Thank the mother Earth two other suckers have already played Tenshin Ranman so I can leech off their hard work.
As for Baldr Sky, well I’m making steady…okay I haven’t been making any progress. I’m having too much fun with this hooking weapon and am even more impressed by the depth of the mechanics of the battle system. The controls are really simple but the timing aspect is ingeniously complex. But I will get around to continuing on with the story and my drug-induced insults of Kou’s hairstyle or some other trivial detail.
To the old-timers, thank you for returning back as it is you guys who help keep this place alive. To the newcomers, I welcome you and hope you enjoy yourselves.

Sucker #1 reporting in.
Good job m3rry on all the reviews. The most important thing is not letting it end up being a chore and actually enjoying writing. I like your writing style since it gives substantial information, but yet keeps a light tone (and has ero). I liked the Shakespearean quotes for ExE.
I agree with your point that as eroge bloggers, we’re trying to make others join the da… I mean, interested in eroge. However, I don’t mind repeat reviews, since everyone has something different to say. For example, I can definitely see a difference in preference between Hemi-tan and me, or you and Zen. Among all of us, we should be able to cover a lot of ground.
And somehow my first comment on this site was on the LD3 post… It’s not like I came because I wanted to read that, it was just a mere coincidence!

I read halfway before I gave up and scrolled till the bottom.
So all I want to say is this:
GOOD JOB BABY!
AND STOP REPLAYING BALDR SKY!

@Micchi:
Don’t worry I like to write. It’s just some guys can’t handle my “giant walls of texts.” *Stares at Sterling01 and Accany* I’ll
take forevereventually write some repeat reviews and more mindless ravings to…provide more variety.So now you must play Love Death 3!
@Algester:
Man, July is going to be a killer all right. Good luck for the both of us!
@Sterling01:
There’s going to be more where that came from, you spam troll.
@Accany:
I swear this is how you play visual novels. It’s the only explanation how you’re able to finish them so quickly.
But Baldr Sky has so much replay value!

I like the style of reviewing that you started with Moshiraba, and hope you continue it. Exposition like that definitely helps us Japanese-illiterate b-game fans the most.

Those take up an adequately large chunk of time and I don’t know if I’ll do it as often as I used to but I won’t give up on it yet.
Man, you should pick up on agth and atlas too for Moshiraba. It’s a sweet game.

Sadly, I have no clue how to use those. Where would I start learning how?

My review posts word count have never dropped below from at least 1000 words unless there are reasons as to not write more. No need to worry, I’m an avid reader and I’ll read all your posts. And keep write hilarious posts.
BTW, where did the first pic comes from? NONENSE it is! XD

But maybe my lengthy posts are the reason why I got so little comments.. T_T

I like to write stuff but lately I haven’t had time so I’m sort of in the same boat as you. As long as people have fun with my lame jokes than I’ll continue writing them “funniez.” The first pic comes from Moshiraba. They cannot spell English. At all.
